Porsche has released details of a one-off Porsche 911 Carrera Panamericana Special that commemorates the 70th anniversary of the 356 S Cabriolet that competed in the Carrera Panamericana back in 1952.
Sharing the original’s Gentian Blue Metallic paint and Graffiti Grey-coloured fabric roof, designers managed to recreate the modern-day tribute after watching old TV footage from the famous race.
Lending a helping hand was Herbert Linge, the mechanic who worked on the original 356 racer and shared his memories and experiences of supporting Porsche’s entry in the famous race.
Commissioned by Porsche Latin America and Porsche Mexico, the one-off 2022 Porsche 911 Carrera Panamericana Special gets body-coloured 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear rims sourced from the 911 Turbo.
Proudly sporting the same number 11 roundels as the racer, the modern-era 911 homage also gets a white rear finned spoiler to match the 356’s white deck.
Inside, there’s Crayon grey leather upholstery with ‘La Carrera Panamericana’ and an outline of the crash helmets worn on the race embroidered on the head restraints.
On the passenger side there’s also a commemorative plaque that reads ‘911 Carrera S – La Carrera Panamericana 1952’ that is replicated on the door sills and blue key case.
Finally, there’s even special ‘La Carrera Panamericana’ puddle lamps.
Instead of going direct to a wealthy collector, Porsche has announced that its special 911 S Cabriolet will be auctioned off in 2023 for charity, with all proceeds going to an undisclosed good cause.
If you’re wondering what happened back in 1952, both Prince Paul Alfons von Metternich and Baron Manuel Antonio de Teffe took a heroic class win in their little 356 S Cabriolet.
