Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe up for grabs

Porsche Club America (PCA) is heading to auction with a one-off retromod it created with Porsche Classic last year based on the 996-series Porsche 911 that draws inspiration from the much more modern 911 Sport Classic.

Dubbed the Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe, the factory-restored and upgraded 911 was commissioned through the Porsche Sonderwunsch (special wishes) program and built at Porsche’s Zuffenhausen factory.

Combining the 997-series 911 Sport Classic’s ducktail spoiler and bubble roof – two elements that were not offered on the 996-series Porsche built from 1999 to 2005 – the one-off Classic Club Coupe was deliberately based on the most underappreciated 911 ever made.

According to Porsche, no pristine showroom queens were harmed in its making, with the 911 Classic Club Coupe based on a roadworthy, but very tatty, example.

Porsche recruited the original designer of the 911 Sport Classic, Grant Larson, to help recapture the original 2010 car’s look.

Look closer and you might spot certain aero elements lifted off the 911 GT3, plus its repainted Fuchs rims.

The ‘Sportgreymetallic’ and ‘Sportgrey Light’ stripes are lifted off the original, while the kickplates bear the Classic Club Coupe logo specially created for the car.

Along its flanks are the PCA Club Blau pinstripes that feature Classic Club Coupe decals.

Inside, there’s special trim that’s been woven from black and grey leather and was first used in the 911 Sport Classic.

For the 911 Classic Club Coupe there’s special diagonal fabric and decorative stitching that’s unique to the one-off special.

There’s also a new steering wheel with yet more decorative stitching and a new centre top marking.

On the dash there’s also a ‘911 Classic Club Coupe No.001/001’ plaque.

New tech like Porsche’s latest infotainment system, which looks like the retro unit that was fitted back in the late 1990s, has also been introduced, providing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Beneath the skin there’s the chassis, powertrain and brakes from the hottest 911 GT3 (996).

That mean the 221kW 3.4-litre flat-six has been junked for a larger 3.6-litre lump that kicks out 284kW.

Instead of sitting in a museum, the special 911 Classic Club Coupe will go under the hammer in June with no reserve. It’s expected to fetch a high six-figure sum.
