Porsche's most advanced road car ever will be the headline act of an 'E-Mobility' road show to promote its plug-in hybrid Cayenne and Panamera models from next month.
The ground-breaking 918 Spyder supercar will be the star car of Porsche's E-Mobility promotion, which kicks off at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix in Melbourne from March 12.
It will be the first time Porsche’s all-wheel drive "technological and performance masterpiece" -- which combines a V8 engine with two electric motors to produce 653kW and 1280Nm, yet can return average fuel consumption of just 3.1L/100km – will be on public display Down Under.
Just 918 versions of the multi-million-dollar limited-edition Porsche flagship were produced -- all in left-hand drive, preventing them being driven on Australian public roads.
Porsche Cars Australia has secured an exclusive ‘Salzburg’ of the Spyder for display, resplendent in white with red racing stripes.
Also featuring in the E-Mobility road show, which will visit official Porsche Centres on Australia's east coast, will be the 919 Hybrid endurance racer that marked Porsche’s return to Le Mans last year and won the final race of the 2014 World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Brazil late last year.
Alongside the two exotic Porsches will be the plug-in Cayenne S E-Hybrid, which has just been launched Down Under, and the plug-in Panamera S E-Hybrid, which arrived here late last year.
Both models output a total of 306kW/440Nm and while the Cayenne plug-in consumes 3,4L/100km, the rechargeable Panamera sips as little as 3.1L/100km.
Together with the 918, Porsche says the plug-in SUV and grand touring sedan make it the world's only car company to offer three PHEVs across three different model lines.
“At Porsche it is all about intelligent performance,” said PCA Managing Director, Sam Curtis.
“Our E-mobility display will showcase road cars and race cars that are at the cutting edge of hybrid technology yet still keep the key Porsche elements of practicality and athletic sports driving.”
After the F1 GP at Albert Park, the E-Mobility road show moves to Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast throughout March and the first half of April.
