Almost a million miles of prototype testing reached as Porsche makes final 918 Spyder tweaksA month after it announced full and final specifications for its plug-in hybrid hypercar, Porsche has released a new video of the 918 Spyder in hot weather testing in the US.
Pictured undergoing shakedown testing in both downtown Las Vegas and the Valley of Fire outside the Nevada capital, the 918 Spyder is now claimed to have notched up almost a million miles of prototype testing.
The 918 will enter production in October, after making its world production debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
At least two well-heeled Australian Porsche enthusiasts will take delivery of the ground-breaking petrol-electric supercar, but neither is expected to bring their million-dollar vehicles Down Under.
As we’ve reported, the 918 packs a 447kW V8 and a further 220kW from two electric motors (for a total output of 653kW/1275Nm), allowing it to hit 100km/h in a blistering 2.8 seconds on its way to a 340km/h-plus top speed.
What’s more, it will be able to travel for up to 30km at speeds of up to 150km/h without burning petrol or emitting CO2, thereby undercutting Toyota’s Prius with a combined fuel consumption figure of around 3.0L/100km.
