Porsche individualisation packages for Boxster/Cayman

Zuffenhausen spices up its entry-level coupe and roadster with value-add option packages

Porsche has announced a quartet of individualisation packages for the Boxster and Cayman that allegedly bring savings of up to 30 per cent over the cost of individually ordering the options they comprise.

The value-add packages come at a crucial juncture, as BMW has just released its Z4 sDrive35iS, while Nissan has unleashed its 370Z Roadster.

The "Comfort" package includes climate control, bi-xenon headlights/dynamic cornering lights, cruise control, automatically dipping interior and exterior mirrors, rain sensor, and -- in combination with leather seats -- embossed Porsche crest on the headrests.

Boxster and Boxster S models equipped with the package also score a wind deflector and 'Drop Box'.

As its name suggests, the "Infotainment" package brings Porsche Communication Management (PCM) inclusive of navigation module, universal audio interface for connecting MP3 players and iPods, and Sound Package Plus.

Sound Package Plus equals a seven-speaker audio system with 185 watts in the Boxster, while in the Cayman it brings nine speakers and 235 watts total output. In addition, there's a CD storage compartment and Bluetooth mobile phone compatibility.

Also offered are "Design" and "Design Sport" packages that focus primarily on the exterior. The former includes lightweight 19-inch alloys (borrowed from the Boxster Spyder) finished in black lacquer.

The black theme extends to the twin tailpipes, mirrors, side air intakes, panel-trim element and badge lettering. On Boxster and Boxster S models the roll bar is also painted black.

Although hard to glean from Porsche's German-translated-into-English press release, it appears as though "Design Sport" brings all this, plus an Aerokit package comprising revised front and rear spoilers.

Australian pricing and availability is yet to be announced, but in Europe the "Comfort" package costs 2606 euros in the Boxster/Boxster S and 2380 euros in the Cayman/Cayman S. The "Infotainment" package costs 3141 euros in both model lines.

The "Design" package costs 3831 euros in the Boxster, 2558 euros in the Boxster S, 3558 euros for the Cayman and 2296 euros for the Cayman S. "Design Sport" is priced at 6747 euros for the Boxster (Boxster S 5474 euros) and 6473 euros for the Cayman (Cayman S 5212 euros).
