Porsche patents 'GT5' name

Speculation is rife the 911 GT3 and Cayman GT4 could be joined by another track-day special

Porsche has submitted a request to the German trademark office to patent the name ‘GT5’ for a future model, according to British car magazine Autocar.

This has led to speculation the Stuttgart-based car-maker could be secretly developing a new hard-core model to join its 911 GT3 and Cayman GT4 models.

Unlike both the GT3 and GT4, there is no ‘GT5’ FIA-backed race series to base or homologate the model on. This could mean Porsche is planning to base the hard-core, track-biased model on a car it does not currently race, like the Macan SUV or Panamera.

Porsche has refused to comment or confirm what model the GT5 could become.
