A worldwide recall has been announced for Porsche's 911 GT3, to remedy a fault that could lead to engine damage and consequently a fire risk.
The company advises that five customer cars in Australia have been caught up in the recall. All vehicles built during the 2014 model year are being inspected. In what is an unusual course of action, Porsche has recommended that owners cease and desist driving the cars in any circumstance until the vehicle has been checked over by Porsche technicians. The car company has offered to arrange pick-up of the vehicle for the trip to the nearest dealer.
Two GT3s in Europe have caught fire, out of the 785 built so far, but no injuries have been sustained.
Porsche does not know what causes the engine damage or the resulting fires, but has promised to supply further details once the cause is known.
