If cars from the famous Zuffenhausen sports car brand in Germany get your pulse racing, then block out April 29 to May 1 next year in your diary, because the Porsche Rennsport event is returning to Sydney for only the second time.
Expected to feature some of the world's most sought-after Porsches, which will be on display and driven in anger at Sydney Motorsport Park (MSP), the Porsche festival will be extended to three days of cooking brakes, smoking tyres and blaring engines. In other words, manna from heaven for the Porsche faithful.
Some of the attractions at Porsche Rennsport Australia will include the Rolling Museum, which has been dubbed "a selection of iconic race cars that have played a key role in shaping the German sports car brand" and will include a number of rare production and racing vehicles.
On-track entertainment will be provided by the annual Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Pro-Am, the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia and a selection of special Porsche demonstrations, not to mention historic and modern sports car races and Porsche Regularity.
Vehicles from the Porsche Museum and Porsche motor racing categories will be announced closer to the event's commencement next year.
Off-track attractions will comprise a Concours d’Elegance and Show ‘n’ Shine exhibits, the Porsche Centre Rennsport pop-up dealership, along with a Kids Zone which includes the Porsche Kids Driving School. Get 'em in early!
There's also corporate hospitality, a retail precinct with merchandise galore and the popular Porschestrasse car display will return too.
Porsche says the 2013 event attracted more than 500 Porsches and a two-day crowd of around 4000 people. In 2016 it expands to three days, which allows for more track time for both racing and hot lap sessions.
Not unlike the Ferrari Racing Days festival that proved popular in 2014, the Porsche festival is expected to attract fans from right around Australia, and should see crowds increase when it returns for the second time.
"There was never any doubt that we would continue the Rennsport concept in Australia. It is immensely popular in North America and the inaugural Australian event was a resounding success," said Porsche Cars Australia managing director Sam Curtis.
"The popularity – both in participation and attendance – in 2013 along with the incredible feedback thereafter made our decision to repeat the event very easy.
"Porsche is an 'experience' brand and we will certainly live up to this reputation for all who attend Porsche Rennsport Australia in 2016," added Curtis.
