Porsche insiders are letting slip more details of the Macan SUV ahead of its official unveiling at the LA Auto Show in November.
Alongside new images of unprecedented detail that were sourced from a dealer conference, auto website Jalopnik reports the unter-Cayenne will initially go to market in two V6 petrol specs.
The twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 Macan will reportedly arrive in US showrooms for $US52K, while an all-new 3.6-litre V6 turbo model will start at $US75K.
No one’s talking exact power and torque numbers yet, officially or unofficially, and it’s not been confirmed what will turn up under the bonnets of Macans to come, although four and six-pot diesels are widely expected. A four-cylinder petrol is not on the cards.
Parent company Volkswagen plans to position the Macan at what it sees as an appropriate arm’s length from sibling brand Audi’s Q5, with which it shares its basic architecture.
And there’s more. In January, Porsche will debut an all-new 911 Targa reprising the thick B-pillar roll-bar from early incarnations. It first turned up more than 40 years ago, but gave way in the mid-2000s 997 series to something more akin to a conventional panoramic glass sunroof.
Footage of a MY14 Targa undergoing testing on the Nurburgring Nordschleife shows the B-pillar under camouflage.
Insiders have also told media that Porsche will add new top-shelf GTS variants to its Boxster and Cayenne line-ups in April,. Engine tweaks will give the newcomers an 11kW advantage over the current top-shelf S variants that are rated at 232kW for the Boxster and 239kW for the Cayman.
External differentiation will come with GTS badging, a lingerie upgrade and 20-inch wheels.
