Porsche teases more of Project Gold 911 Turbo

Special in-house restomod created to celebrate company's 70th anniversary is revealed in greater detail

Porsche has released a new sketch and two more videos of its Project Gold recreation that it's building ahead of an unveiling on August 24.

The image, which clearly shows a gold neon outline of a 993-series-shaped 911, confirms the car maker is basing its creation on the iconic sports car that was sold between 1993-1998.

An earlier video, posted on its social media channels over the weekend, went further by confirming the specific model Porsche Classic is recreating to celebrate seven decades will be based on the Turbo model.

The two latest short video teasers concern some of the painstaking craftsmanship and new engineering techniques applied in the build process for the factory restomod (a vehicle restored/modified from original).

The first video shows how innovative laser-etching will be used on the 18-inch Turbo wheels to reveal bright gold highlights on a gloss black wheel.

The next short clip shows the seats of Project Gold have been made by hand, presumably by some of the workers who worked to create the 1990s 911 the first time round.

It's thought the 993 was chosen to celebrate 70 years of Porsche since it was the last air-cooled car made before emissions regulations forced the switch to water-cooled engines.

As well as a new updated cabin that's expected to keep its retro look but gain technology from more modern 911s, the special Porsche will also get a wider, lower, more menacing look.

Under its rear engine cover, engineers are unlikely to be able to resist giving the twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre flat-six cylinder more power. Expect the Project Gold 911 to produce significantly more power than the final most powerful Turbo S models that pushed out around 330kW.

Initially, it's thought the Project Gold will be a one-off model for Porsche's collection but once celebrations are finished, Porsche Classic is likely to launch a new product line aimed at wealthy 911 owners who, in the past, have approached 911 restomod specialists like Singer to update and modify their cars.
