Porsche Traykan EV pick-up is radical

Move over Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T, the Porsche Taycan pick-up is ready to rumble

If you thought the Ford Rapstang was one of the coolest Franken-utes ever conceived or even raised an eyebrow in the direction of the Bugatti Raptor, this latest EV ute design should tickle your fancy.

Dubbed the Porsche Traykan, it was created by design group Adel Bouras: a mash-up of the cutting-edge Porsche Taycan EV and a classic ute or pick-up truck.

The design team claims to have worked with Audi, Rolls-Royce and BMW in the past and while Porsche will never build a ute like this (it does have access to the new VW Amarok if it changes its mind) the German sports car brand is developing an off-road wagon version of its electric vehicle, called the Taycan Cross Turismo.

If Porsche built an EV ute, would it look like this?

As it stands, the Porsche Traykan is a two-door, car-based pick-up in the vein of the Ford Falcon RTV ute, a jacked-up off-road specialist designed for drivers who love doing sick skids.

Assuming the creators of the Traykan pictured the machine with the same powertrain as the range-topping $300,000 Porsche Taycan Turbo S, it packs a 94kWh battery that feeds a pair of burly electric motors that crank out a combined 560kW and 1050Nm.

Fast? Oh yes.

The 0-100km/h dash in the Taycan takes 2.8 seconds and it has a top speed of 260km/h. This thing could (theoretically) be lighter, meaning it would (theoretically) be faster.

Being a single-cab ute, it'll fit inside cramped apartment car parks

While the Traykan may look somewhat far-fetched with its aerodynamic sports bar, side air intakes and sporty wheels, just have a squiz at Elon Musk's Cybertruck – which has hundreds of thousands of deposits – to see that ignoring convention can pay dividends in today's evolving new car market.

The front end features the quad LED headlights of the Taycan but the front apron has been completely reworked, incorporating a pair of rugged-looking spotlights.

The rear end of the fantasy ute has more of a Porsche Cayenne look to it but it looks no more kooky than the Rivian R1T or Tesla Cybertruck EV utes.

What do you think of the design? Have your say in the comments below.
