The mildly-facelifted 2024 BMW 2 Series Coupe range has been priced and specced ahead of its Australian arrival in the coming months.
As expected, the upgraded compact luxury coupe line-up will be accompanied by equally mild price increases, with a starting figure of $76,900 plus on-road costs (up $2500) for the entry-level BMW 230i, while the full-fat 2024 BMW M2 will open from $123,900 plus ORCs (+$2200).
Sandwiched between the two will once again be the M240i xDrive, which at $99,900 plus ORCs commands the biggest price increase (+$3900) despite lacking any extra firepower as per the M2.
As we’ve reported, the upgraded M2 has been treated to a 15kW power increase across the board, with the automatic version also scoring an extra 50Nm of torque, boosting the twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine’s outputs to 353kW/600Nm when paired with the eight-speed auto – or 353kW/550Nm for the six-speed manual.
The extra shove sees both versions of the new M2 shave 0.1 seconds off their claimed 0-100km/h acceleration times, with the manual now officially stopping the clock in 4.2sec and the auto in 4.0sec flat, while 0.6sec has been taken off their claimed 0-200km/h times – now 13.6 and 12.7sec respectively.
No changes have been made to lesser turbo-six of the M240i xDrive or the 2.0-litre turbo-four in the 230i, which continue to come with an eight-speed auto as standard and still output 285kW/500Nm and 190kW/400Nm respectively.
The 2024 facelift has brought some minor design tweaks to all three locally-offered 2 Series variants, but the big news is the extended standard equipment lists of each grade.
The Australian-spec 230i, for instance, has gained front seat lumbar adjustment, illuminated M highlighters, Parking Assistant Plus, heated front seats, Sensatec upholstery and tyre pressure monitoring, plus BMW Operating System 8.5 with QuickSelect from its dearer stablemates.
Other carryover 230i features include 18-inch alloys, adaptive LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, ambient lighting, Comfort Access, a digital instrument cluster, M Sport Package, M leather steering wheel, front seat power adjustment, high-beam assist and a wireless phone charger.
New additions to the M240i xDrive’s standard kit list, meantime, include CraftedClarity glass trim, M Sport seats, a heated steering wheel and tyre pressure monitoring.
This is in addition to pre-existing standard equipment like adaptive M suspension, a glass sunroof, Harmon/Kardon surround sound system, Vernasca leather upholstery, tyre pressure monitoring and other toys shared with the 230i.
The M2’s new standard kit list, meantime, now extends to a new flat-bottom steering wheel, redesigned instrument panel and recalibrated throttle mapping to match the engine’s new grunt.
Most of the new M2’s equipment highlights are shared with the lesser variants, but M-specific bits include M seatbelts, M Drive Professional, carbon-fibre interior trim and M Compound brakes.
