Price hikes for updated Peugeot 5008

More equipment and new model grade for Peugeot’s pricier 2022 seven-seat SUV

The Peugeot 5008 has been updated for the 2022 model year (MY22), with the previous two variants of the seven-seat SUV scrapped to make way for better-equipped and more expensive replacements that will arrive April this year.

Peugeot Australia today announced its flagship SUV will undergo a price rise of up to $9500 courtesy of the incoming MY22 Peugeot 5008 GT Sport and 5008 GT Diesel models.

The range-topping 5008 GT Sport is pegged at $61,940 plus on-road costs (up $9500 over the 5008 GT) and the GT Diesel at $62,990 plus ORCs (up $3000).

The new GT Sport brings a power boost from its 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine, which now bangs out 133kW of power and 250Nm of torque – up from 121kW and 240Nm. Power is transferred to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

There are no AWD versions available and the revised Peugeot GT Diesel carries over the same four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine (131kW/400Nm), also paired with an eight-speed auto.

Fuel consumption for the petrol and diesel engines remains unchanged, at 5.6L/100km and 5.0L/100km respectively.

Along with its price, equipment levels for the GT Sport have increased, with a standard ‘black pack’ adding blacked-out trim features and black 19-inch ‘Washington’ diamond-cut alloy wheels with a unique ‘Black Mist’ finish.

Heated, power adjustable Nappa leather upholstered front seats are fitted, with a massage function for the driver, along with a panoramic opening glass sunroof as standard.

All the latest semi-autonomous driving systems are part of the package, including active lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and speed sign recognition. A large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster – or i-Cockpit in Peugeot-speak – pairs with a 10-inch central touch-screen as well.

See below for the standard equipment list, which is almost identical for the Peugeot 5008 GT Diesel, although it misses out on the panoramic glass roof, the black pack and door mirror-mounted LED ‘Lion’ puddle lights.

The 5008 GT Diesel also gets different 19-inch alloy wheel designs and faux-leather and Alcantara seat upholstery with copper stitching.

Sales of the Peugeot 5008 have been unexceptional, with just 189 vehicles finding homes in 2021. The top-selling mid-size SUV in Australia last year was the Toyota RAV4 with 35,751 sales.
