Price rise for 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid

Electrified mid-size SUV now dearer but pricing for turbo-petrol versions carries over unchanged

The 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is now more expensive to the tune of $1500, despite no changes to its standard specification.

Introduced in May, the base front-drive Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is now priced from $57,000 plus on-road costs (ORCs), widening the gap between the equivalent turbo-petrol variant to $4000.

The range-topping Santa Fe Hybrid Calligraphy AWD now costs $76,500 plus ORCs, $4000 more than the Santa Fe Calligraphy 2.5T AWD.

Instead of blaming increased costs, Hyundai Australia has reportedly attributed the increases to align its hybrid versions with offerings from other brands.

Previously, the gap between the turbo-petrol and the hybrid was $2500 but, following the $1500 price bump, the Santa Fe now mirrors the same $4000 hybrid/turbo-petrol price gap that already exists on the smaller Hyundai Tucson and Kona SUVs.

Initially, when the all-new fifth-generation Hyundai Santa Fe was introduced back in May 2024 it was only offered with the petrol-electric 1.6-litre turbo that saw a huge $9450 price hike over the outgoing model.

Producing a combined 172kW and 367Nm and using a small 1.49kWh battery that stores recovered energy, the headline news of the new electrified SUV was its ability to average 5.6L/100km.

Cheaper petrol variants arrived in December 2024 that introduced a 2.5-litre turbo four-cylinder engine. Producing 206kW and 422Nm of torque, the engine is combined with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, rather than the hybrid’s traditional six-speed auto.

Compared to the efficient hybrid, the punchier turbo-petrol averages 9.3L/100km.

The advantage of the turbo-petrol is that it can tow up to 2000kg, compared to the hybrid’s 1650kg limit.

In the first four months of this year Hyundai has sold 2141 examples of the Santa Fe in Australia – an impressive increase of 78.3 per cent over this time last year.

Even though more Santa Fes are finding homes in 2025, Hyundai’s three-row SUV is still trailing the Kia Sorento, which recorded 3284 deliveries over the same period – and that figure represented an 8.9 per cent drop on the year before.
