More than 400 diesel versions of the soon-to-retire DS-series RAM 1500 have been recalled due to a potentially faulty fuel pump that could leave drivers stranded.
According to RAM Trucks Australia’s recall notice, 437 examples of the RAM 1500 diesel produced between 2014 and 2019 are affected, and you can check if your vehicle identification number is included here.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the High-Pressure Fuel Pump could fail prematurely and introduce failed component debris into the fuel system,” said RTA.
“This could impair the fuel supply to the engine and result in a loss of power whilst driving.
“A loss of power whilst driving could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders.”
RTA says it will contact affected owners in writing, requesting they make an appointment at any authorised RAM dealership to have the work carried out.
Naturally, the latter will be done free of charge – but only when parts become available.

As we’ve reported, the venerable fourth-generation DS-series RAM 1500, which dates back to 2009, is in runout and will soon be effectively replaced by a new cut-price Big Horn version of the latest DT-series RAM 1500.
The latest recall for the locally-converted RAM 1500 follows a recall to fix a tailgate problem with more than 3000 DS-series vehicles in January.
