Range Rover meets private jet

When it comes to pimping high-end cars/SUVs, neither practicality nor taste need come into the equation.

This probably explains the existence of tarted-up Bentleys with gullwing doors, chintzy gold-plated Rolls-Royces and various other exotic abominations that seem to abound in great numbers in the Middle East (where this correspondent is based).

In the same vein we present the Q-VR, a heavily pimped Rangie created by a design consultancy known as Design Q. The aim of the brainiacs at said consultancy was to create a vehicle with all the creature comforts and mod-cons you'd find in a private jet.

In keeping with the aviation theme, the Q-VR's clamshell doors are hinged at the top and bottom, enabling the occupants to emerge from the cabin in the same fashion as a rock star or oil baron might step from his personal Learjet or Gulfstream.

The sizeable stretch in wheelbase provides acres of sprawling room inside, and the individual rear pews are fully reclining units with fold-out leg rests to make for effortless cross-continental journeys across land.

There's a comprehensive quota of luxo fitments, and these include a drinks chiller, mini-spa centre and cigar humidor. Meanwhile, a fold-out tray table provides an ideal base for a laptop or serving of foie gras and champers.

There's no word on how much the conversion costs but, given the target market, it wouldn't be a surprise to find it multiplies by two- or three-fold the price of the donor vehicle.
