Recall wrap: Mazda CX-3 diesel running on

Sustained high revs could damage CX-3's engine and Jeep Cherokee rear suspension could collapse

Mazda is recalling diesel CX-3 models for a software patch to rectify a known fault that could lead to a badly damaged engine.

In the event a user runs the engine at high revs in an unloaded state (while the transmission is in Park or Neutral), the engine may enter an 'over run' condition. Should that happen, the engine will continue to run at high speeds, drawing residual oil from the intake manifold and possibly failing eventually. Mazda advises that 1627 vehicles are affected, all sold between February 22, 2015 and November 24, 2017. The importer will contact owners to arrange a visit to the nearest servicing dealer for 'a revised PCM calibration'. Owners may also contact Mazda Customer Support on 1800 034 411 for further information.

FCA Australia has announced multiple recalls, the most significant being for the Jeep KJ Cherokee. According to the importer, the KJ Cherokee is susceptible to 'excessive corrosion' afflicting the lower control arms in the rear suspension. If the corrosion goes unchecked, the lower control arms could break, potentially resulting in a crash.

FCA anticipates replacement parts will be available from June 2018 and the company will then contact owners to make arrangements for the 7901 affected vehicles sold between 2004 and 2007 to be inspected at a servicing dealer and repaired. Owners seeking further information are encouraged to contact FCA on 1300 133 079.

Another Jeep, the KL Cherokee with 2.4-litre engine, is also being recalled for a defective fuel tube that could pose a fire risk and fuel starvation problems. Only 18 vehicles sold in Australia during 2018 are subject to the recall. FCA Australia expects replacement parts to become available from June, when it will contact owners to arrange a booking at a servicing dealer for the affected vehicles to be inspected and repaired. Vehicle owners may seek further information from FCA by phoning 1300 133 079.

American Special Vehicles has issued a recall notice for RAM 2500 and 3500 trucks that may lose steering assistance if the power steering hose fails. According to the company the RAM trucks are 2017 and 2018 models and 429 units are subject to the recall. Owners will be contacted by mail to arrange an inspection and repair at a servicing dealer. ASV also offers the service of an information line (1800 649 607) for owners wanting to know more.
