Recall wrap: Peugeot 4008 inherits Mitsu stalling problem

And starter motor for front-drive Mercedes-Benz models could be a fire risk

Peugeot Citroen Australia has announced a recall for the Mitsubishi-built Peugeot 4008, suffering from the same fault afflicting the ASX on which it's based. The fault relates to a power relay that may overheat and fail, leading to loss of engine power and stalling.

According to the importer 939 vehicles are affected and were sold new between November 30, 2014, and December 30, 2015. Owners will be informed by mail, once the parts are available.

Mercedes-Benz has announced a recall for vehicles built on its modular front-wheel drive ('MFA') Platform for a starter motor issue. These vehicles, the CLA, A and B-Class models, are susceptible to the starter motor jamming, if it's damaged. In that event, multiple attempts to restart the car could result in overheating and possible fire.

Over 10,600 vehicles are subject to the recall, all sold between January 31, 2015 and January 31, 2017. Benz advises customers to contact their nearest servicing dealer for an inspection and repair.

Ateco Automotive is contacting owners of the Ssanyong Stavic by mail concerning worn suspension ball joints. Over an extended period, the ball joints will wear and eventually fail, the importer warns, possibly resulting in loss of control. Owners of the 340 vehicles affected are asked to contact their nearest servicing dealer to have the fault rectified.

Tesla's Model X is the subject of a recall notice affecting 89 vehicles sold in Australia. The Model X built between October 28, 2016 and September 1, 2017, is believed to have been fitted with a "misadjusted cable that controls the recliner mechanisms" for the folding second-row seats. During the production process, the cable that unlatches the left-rear seat for reclining may have been fitted while the seat was unlatched, making it likely that seat is not fully locked in place in normal operation, due to the cable being too tight. This would pose a risk to an occupant in that seat, in the event of a crash.

The defect was resolved for vehicles produced from August 31, 2017 onwards. According to the importer the seats of vehicles built prior to that date may not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 207/210. The on-sale dates for the affected vehicles in Australia range from October 27, 2016 to October 11, 2017.

Tesla is asking owners to present the vehicles to the nearest servicing centre for inspection of the seat, and rectification, if required.

Fiat Chrysler Automotive is recalling the Fiat Ducato commercial vehicle with 2.3-litre engine and M38/M40 transmission. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) pipe may break, the importer advises, and the exhaust fumes escaping could result in reduced engine performance. According to the importer, 700 vehicles are subject to the recall.
