Recall wrap: Porsche Boxster and Cayman called back

Suspension issues hit Porsche sports cars as Chrysler 300, VW Passat and Mercedes-Benz SUVs also under recall

Porsche has announced a nationwide recall for its previous-generation 981-series Porsche Boxster and Cayman sports cars.

Affecting a total of 310 examples built between 2012 and 2014, the German car-maker has advised that “due to a manufacturing defect” the rear suspension on affected models could fail in extreme driving situations, which could in turn result in a loss of vehicle control and impact handling.

As with all recall notices of this nature, the car-maker acknowledges that a loss of control increases the risk of serious injury or death to occupants and/or other road users.

Owners of affected vehicles are therefore asked to contact their local Porsche centre to arrange for the necessary works to be carried out free of charge.

Chrysler 300

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Australia has announced a recall that affects 32 examples of the current Chrysler 300, built from 2019-2021, because the windscreen could detach from the car.

According to the recall notice, the adhesive that holds the windscreen in place may not meet manufacturing specifications, meaning the glass may not be adequately secured to the vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz has also announced a recall affecting 17 examples of its 2020-built Mercedes-Benz GLC and GLE SUVs, as well as its electric EQC.

Benz says the electrical connectors of the side crash sensors may not meet manufacturing specifications.

“These sensors are used to determine when to deploy the airbags in the event of an accident. If the sensors do not operate as designed, it may result in a delay in the operation of the airbags,” the recall notice states.

The current MY21 Volkswagen Passat wagon has also been recalled this week over brake pedal concerns that affect 95 examples.

According to the recall notice, the threaded nut connecting the brake servo and brake pedal may not meet manufacturing specifications.

If the nut becomes loose, VW says the brake pedal will no longer function.

Ford Ranger, Everest

Ford has also recalled 287 late-model examples of its two best-sellers this week, with the popular Ford Ranger ute and its Everest SUV sibling needing attention.

Those affected include models built from 2016-2021 and are only a problem for those fitting a Rhino Rack-branded Sunseeker awning.

According to the Blue Oval brand, the mounting bolts used for the specific awning may not meet manufacturing specifications and could break, causing the awning to detach from the vehicle.
