Recall Wrap: Toyota Tundra could jump out at you

Toyota’s biggest truck might not have working reversing-lights while select Mercedes need new fuse boxes

More than 830 Toyota Tundras produced between 2022 and 2024 have been recalled over concerns the reversing lights may fail due to a manufacturing defect.

According to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts, moisture could get onto/into the reversing lights’ circuit board and cause a short, thereby disabling the lamps and potentially activating the reversing camera while driving (forward).

Malfunctioning reversing lights obviously pose a significant risk to both the vehicle occupants and other road users as it greatly increases the likelihood of a crash – nothing like having 2.8 tonnes of pick-up truck back out without warning.

Affected owners are being contacted by Toyota Australia to notify them of the recall and will be contacted again to book in a free inspection and repair once the replacement parts are available.

A list of affected VINs is attached to the official recall notice on the Vehicle Recalls database.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class, EQE, EQS, GLC, SL

Elsewhere, Mercedes-Benz is calling back a raft of AMG models spanning the C43, C63 S, EQE 53, EQS 53 and SL63 along with the core GLC 300 to replace a potentially faulty fuse box which could cause the vehicle management systems to fail.

“If this occurs, it may lead to a sudden loss of motive power and/or a vehicle fire,” the recall notice reads.

“Certain vehicles that previously had this recall rectification carried out may have been fitted with the incorrect replacement part.”

Strangely, two separate recalls for the same fault – and an overlap in models – have been issued less than a day apart, the first encompassing 19 vehicles and the second 18, all of which were produced in 2023.

“Owners of affected vehicles should contact their nearest authorised Mercedes-Benz dealership to have the fuse box replaced as it may have been fitted with an incorrect part when recall REC-005923 was carried out,” Mercedes advised.

“Rectification work will be completed free of charge.”

An affected VIN list is attached to each notice.
