The facelifted 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been teased ahead of its debut in Australian showrooms in early 2025, the Japanese car-maker releasing three new teaser images of the updated mid-size SUV to stoke interest.
Full details will come later but for now the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander's new LED running lamps that appears to feature five-square elements, adding more sophisticated optics.
Not visible in the teaser is an all-new grille design that Mitsubishi says will incorporate active shutters to reduce drag at speed, therefore improving fuel efficiency.
The second image shows off the mid-size SUV’s premium leather seat option while the third photo announces the arrival of a new powerful 12-speaker Yamaha sound system.
The plug-in hybrid SUV is expected to adopt the Nissan X-TRAIL's larger 12.3-inch infotainment system that will run the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance's latest-gen software.
The Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan X-TRAIL share platform architectures and numerous components, however the Mitsubishi’s 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol-electric powertrain is unique to that vehicle and is likely to carry over, but it could be combined with a larger battery than today's car's 20kWh power pack.
If so, expect the EV range to increase by at least 16km and for the Outlander PHEV to cover more than 100km of all-electric power for the first time.
There's no word yet when the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander's will make its debut, although it's thought its first public outing with be at the Japan Mobility Show this October.
Earlier this year Mitsubishi Australia CEO Shaun Westcott told carsales the Japanese brand plans to double sales of PHEV versions of both the Outlander and the smaller Eclipse Cross in response to booming demand for its electrified mid-size and small SUV.
In 2023 Mitsubishi sold 2274 Outlander PHEVs and 1296 Eclipse Cross PHEVs, a relatively small portion of its 63,511 total sales for that year.
