The Renault Koleos now comes with a seven-year, unlimited-km warranty and three years of free scheduled servicing – a move that should make the mid-size French SUV more popular in a sea of stronger-selling rivals.
Applicable to MY17/18 and MY19 model, the extended warranty replaces Renault’s standard five-year/unlimited-km aftersales coverage and the free service deal is limited to 90,000km.
There are no price changes, meaning the six-variant Renault Koleos range continues to open at $30,990 (plus on-road costs) for the petrol-powered Life 4x2.
Also petrol-powered and front-wheel drive are the Zen 4x2 ($35,490 plus ORCs) and the newly-launched Koleos Formula Edition ($35,990 plus ORCs), which Renault says is inspired by Daniel Ricciardo and Renault’s rich motorsport heritage.
All three lower-grade Koleos variants are powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine making 126kW and 226Nm -- the same unit found under the bonnet of the Koleos’ twin-under-the-skin, the Nissan X-TRAIL.
Moving higher up the 2019 Renault Koleos range are 4x2 and 4x4 versions of the Intens priced from $43,990 and $45,990 respectively. Both are powered by the same petrol engine, while the only diesel-powered offering in the Koleos range is the top-spec Intens 4x4 priced from $47,990.
The diesel-powered Koleos is motivated by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit that develops 130kW and 380Nm. Like the petrol-powered models, it is matched exclusively to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Metallic paint costs an extra $880 across the range, while a panoramic electric sunroof adds $1990.
So far this year the family-size Renault Koleos languishes in 11th place in the sub-$60,000 medium SUV, which is topped by the Mazda CX-5 (16,116 units), Toyota RAV4 (13,623) and Nissan X-TRAIL (11,208). By comparison, the Renault Koleos has found just 1168 homes.
It’s a situation that Renault Australia managing director, Anouk Poelmann, hopes will be addressed by the longer seven-year warranty and free servicing.
“When you see a Renault Koleos on the road its instantly appealing to the eye. What I want now is for more Australians to truly see the value of this exciting and attractive SUV,” said Poelmann.
In addition to the convenience of its class-leading service intervals of 30,000km or 12 months (whichever comes first), Renault says the free service offer its best-selling model translates to a real-world saving of up to $1107 over three years.
“Along with its superior design the servicing intervals Renault provides ensures Australians choosing the Renault Koleos enjoy even greater peace of mind, convenience and value all backed by the heritage of the Renault brand,” said Poelmann.
“The Australian Automotive industry yearly kilometre average of 13,400km means non-Renault SUV owners often need more than one trip to the service department each year. This can add a considerable cost to drivers over the ownership period, and means our longer servicing intervals provide both cost and convenience benefits to Australian Koleos owners every year.
