Renault has released teaser images of a striking new small-car concept ahead of its official reveal at the 2013 Monaco F1 Grand Prix on May 24.
Once again created as part of the ‘Play’ component of Renault Design’s “life-cycle” design strategy, the unnamed show car follows the reveal of the Twin-Z concept in Milan on April 8.
Renault says both small cars were designed under the leadership of Laurens van den Acker, and says the latest concept will undertake dynamic demonstrations at events such as July’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
“This concept car was designed and developed entirely by Renault Design as an expression of the brand’s passion and an illustration of how different takes on the same city car are possible,” said the French car-maker.
While the Twin-Z was a conventional five-door hatchback with a striking LED-laden front-end, Renault’s new concept features a pair of bold square-shaped LED foglights beneath each headlight and a large front air intake filled with red-tinged mesh.
Continuing the red theme are aggressive alloy wheels with red highlights (including on the race-style centre-lock nut) and a bold red body-side stripe, while a large ‘5’ on the front door hints at its racy potential.
While the green-focused all-electric rear-wheel drive Twin-Z concept was believed to preview one possible design direction for Renault’s next Twingo, the newest show car appears to present another more sporting design alternative for Renault’s future small-car offerings.
