GM Holden has announced details of the first in what's expected to be a series of limited-edition versions of its final, VFII Commodore – the Reserve Edition.
But the vehicle comes with a catch: the Reserve Edition model will not be available to the public and is only for sale to permanent employees who worked for Holden at December 11, 2013.
In a letter signed by Holden MD, Mark Bernhard, the VFII Reserve Edition is described as “the creation of people who love and cherish the Commodore nameplate”.
The letter sent to current and recently departed employees explains that a group of staff came up with the idea of the special-edition Commodore model shortly after the announcement that Holden will end local manufacturing in 2017.
Available on select SV6 and SSV Redline models, the Reserve Edition comes with a host of unique features for no extra cost, including:
19-inch bespoke wheels
Reserve Edition badging
Embroidered Dash Pad
Head Up Display (standard on Redline models)
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (V8 models only)
Commemorative Key Case
To recognise the contribution of Holden employees, each vehicle will be individually engraved with its owner’s unique employee number on the build plate.
In the flyer sent to employees’ homes this week, the Reserve Edition is flagged to “forever be an ongoing source of Holden Pride, whether you garage it for the future or drive it every day.”
To add to the car’s collectable status, each Reserve Edition model comes with its production line broadcast sheet, the check sheet that accompanies each vehicle through Holden’s Elizabeth plant.
Orders for the Reserve Model must be placed with a Holden dealer by December 31, 2015, with orders strictly limited to one Reserve Edition per eligible employee or retiree.
Production of the 2016 Reserve Edition will begin in May next year and Holden says it may offer a 2017 Reserve Edition subject to employee demand.
