Revised Ssangyong Korando imminent

Ssangyong has redesigned its budget-friendly five-seater SUV, the Korando, which the emphasis on style and refinement

Ssangyong has unveiled its new-look Korando, which is set to reach dealer showrooms in 2014.

The new-look Korando features a revised front end, with a slimmed down front grille and updated headlights with LED daytime running lights. The taillights have been redesigned too, while the SUV rolls on new 16- and 17-inch wheels.

On the inside, the Korando gets a new dashboard with soft-touch materials and natural matt wood-grain accents, adding to the more luxurious and up-market feel.

Finally, Ssangyong has strengthened the engine mounts, resulting in a claimed 9.3 per cent decrease in engine noise.

Powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, Ssangyong claims the updated Korando will scoot to 100km/h in 9.9 seconds, and returns combined-cycle fuel economy as low as 6.0L/100km.

The Korando SE and SE4 come with a six-speed manual transmission while the Korando ELX4 comes in a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed T-tronic automatic. All models bar the base SE come with four-wheel drive.

The Korando also features a split 60/40 folding rear seat that can increase storage capacity from 486 litres to 1312 litres and comes with ESP, ABS and Hill Start Assist as standard across all models.

With no major mechanical changes, we expect the new Korando will offer a very similar driving experience to that of the one we reviewed back in 2012.

Pricing is yet to be confirmed for the new Korando, but the current base model is priced from $23,990 (driveaway).
