Rivian R1T is the electric ute with a kitchen

Would you like a snag with that? Check out the stowable camp stove in Rivian’s EV pick-up

Rivian has shown off more of the fold-away kitchen that will be available in its upcoming R1T pick-up.

First US deliveries of the Rivian R1T and its SUV sister model, the R1S, have been delayed until January 2022 and, although both vehicles have been earmarked for right-hand drive production and sales Down Under, there’s no word on timing for an Aussie release.

Likely to be priced close to $100,000 based on a starting price of $US67,500 in North America, the Rivian R1T pick-up will be powered by four 147kW electric motors with a combined torque output of an incredible 14,000Nm.

Rivian claims its dual-cab 4x4 ute – a direct rival for upcoming full-size American electric pick-ups like the Ford F-150 Lightning, GMC Hummer EV and Tesla Cybertruck – will tow up to five tonnes and hit 100km/h in just three seconds.

It’s also set to be a proper off-roader with 4x4 credentials, meaning it’ll crawl over rocks, up mountains and even be able to drift.

And, if you fancy a feast next time you’re out bush, or want everything from a kitchen sink, cook-top and bench at your disposal for long-distance Outback treks, Rivian has that covered too.

Although Rivian revealed its Camp Kitchen back in 2019, the US EV start-up’s boss RJ Scaringe recently posted a Twitter video showing off more details about the R1T’s cool mini-kitchen.

Featuring a collapsible sink and two-burner electric stove, it slides in and out of the 5.5-metre-long pick-up’s body from a compartment just behind the rear seats dubbed the Gear Tunnel.

The stowable kitchen contains almost everything you could imagine, including a 1440-Watt induction stove-top (powered by the ute’s 130kWh EV battery) and a 30-piece kitchen set that includes pots, pans, cooking utensils, a kettle, coffee grinder, titanium cutlery and more.

There are also light poles and string lights so you can see what you’re doing, plus stainless steel plates and bowls that have been “wonderfully curated by the team”, says Scaringe.

Everything is secured by moulded inserts designed to stop its contents from rattling around, which is a good thing considering the mobile kitchen option is set to cost $US5000 ($A6600).

The Camp Kitchen can be swapped out for other Gear Tunnel accessories that will become available in future, including a standard work bench or even turntables and a microphone for partygoers.

Another Rivian R1T option, as you can see at the Rivian configurator, is a three-person Skyrise HD Medium Rooftop tent. Priced at $US2650, it’s produced by Yakima and sits on cargo crossbars atop the cargo bed.
