Sat-nav for SX4, Grand Vitara

Suzuki announces new infotainment system for upgraded SX4 and Grand Vitara models

Suzuki has revealed a new touch-screen infotainment system destined for flagship versions of its upgraded SX4 and Grand Vitara models due in showrooms this month.

The Japanese small-vehicle specialist last week announced its facelifted Grand Vitara model line-up, including the first two-wheel drive version from just $26,990 drive-away, and now it has heralded details of the new satellite-navigation system that will grace selected models.

Standard on new SX4 S models and in Sport and Prestige versions of new Grand Vitara, the fully integrated navigation system features a new 6.1-inch high-resolution touch-screen offering voice activation for key functions.

The full-featured infotainment platform includes an AM/FM radio, CD player, multi-media playback, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity and Garmin navigation.

It allows users to play music from external devices such as a mobile phone or iPod via USB and auxiliary jacks, or via wireless streaming, in addition to an SD card slot.

The navigation system delivers road guidance with spoken turn-by-turn directions and street names, as well as offering lane guidance, speed limit information and current speed displays, millions of points of interest and a customisable data menu.

Suzuki says the navigation system has access to vehicle speed sensors to provide precise location information even when a GPS signal is not available and, when switching to other menus such as the music player, navigation directions will continue with visual cues displayed at the top of the screen.

The system also features SUNA real-time traffic updates, while integrated Bluetooth technology allows users to make hands-free calls and downloads all contacts in the paired phone. Navigation, radio, CD player and basic telephone functions can all be operated by voice control.

“Suzuki owners can now – with the press of a button and a simple voice command – dial a phone number, tune into a radio station or locate an address without taking their hands off the wheel, or eyes off the road,” said Suzuki Australia General Manager, Tony Devers.

“Importantly, we have included this feature while keeping price increases in the models featuring the new technology to around one per cent.”
