Self-steering for Honda CR-V too

New Honda Accord's Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) now available for CR-V

Honda’s CR-V is now available with the Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) first seen on the new Accord.

However, it is only available as a factory-fitted option on the range-topping CR-V 4WD VTi-L, increasing its price from $42,290 to $45,790 plus on-road costs.

As in the Accord, the ADAS safety package includes Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

CMBS determines the risk of a collision and provides the driver with visual and audio alerts to encourage evasive action. If it detects a collision is imminent, CMBS will apply braking and seatbelt tensioning to minimise risk.

Designed for dual carriageway or freeway use, LKAS detects lane markings using a camera mounted on the inside of the windscreen.  If it senses the vehicle is about to leave its lane without indicating, it will issue a visual and audio warning and apply gentle corrective steering to help move the vehicle back to the centre of the lane.

Operated by steering wheel buttons, ACC is a radar-based automatic cruise control system that allows drivers to set their speed and distance from the vehicle in front.??Honda points out that the new CR-V, which went on sale last November and is currently Australia’s fourth best selling medium SUV (behind the Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4 and, narrowly, Subaru Forester), is the nation’s number one petrol-only mid-size SUV to May this year with 5883 units sold.

“With advanced safety technology such as the Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keep Assist System and Adaptive Cruise Control, ADAS makes the CR-V an even more attractive proposition for Australian families,” said Honda Australia Director, Stephen Collins.

The CR-V will become available with diesel power for the first time in December, when it will also become Honda Australia’s first diesel-auto model, following the manual-only Civic diesel hatch.

Honda has now also added two new paint colours to the CR-V range -- Taffeta White and Modern Steel.
