SHANGHAI MOTOR SHOW: Buick Verano revealed
GM shows off the all-new sports sedan it hopes will take China by stormAmerican car maker Buick has revealed the all-new Verano sedan at the Shanghai motor show.
Taking styling cues from the 2013 Buick Riviera and pinching a bit of stylistic inspiration from this year’s far bigger Avenir concept the new sedan carried Buick’s signature waterfall grille. There’s also LED daytime running lights and rear lamps.
Under the bonnet the new Verano is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol that produces 124kW/250Nm. Channelling the power to the road is a new seven-speed dual clutch transmission that, GM claims, has undergone 4.25m kilometres of testing.
At the pumps the Buick Verano is said to average 6.1l/100km.
In China the Buick Verano is renamed the Wei Lang and, along with its other passenger car and commercial vehicles, help GM sell more that 3.5 million vehicles in 2014.
It’s unlikely the Verano will venture Down Under but could provide the basis for a Chevrolet or Holden of the future. The new powerful and efficient 1.5-litre turbo and seven-speed tranny is also expected to appear in a Holden, potentially in the facelifted version of the current Malibu.
