Chevrolet has teased an image of an all-new SUV concept to be unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show on April 19.
Called the FNR-X, the SUV is believed to have been inspired by the wild FNR concept Chevrolet debuted at the Chinese show back in 2015.
Instead of a Tron-inspired fully autonomous pure-electric vehicle of the future, the latest Chevrolet concept is a more conventional SUV and, with plenty of design cues from the Camaro muscle car, Chevrolet's FNR-X displays a sporty emphasis.
Lifting autonomous driving aids from the 2015 concept, the FNR-X will also closely monitor its human occupants' mood.
If it detects you're in a bad mood, to cheer you up, the car will automatically switch to a sports chassis setting plus racier engine and transmission modes.
Chinese buyers are showing a distinct appreciation for people movers, so inside expect the Chevrolet FNR-X to highlight versatility including seats that swivel and fold flat into the floor.
Under the bonnet, a new plug-in hybrid powertrain will replace the FNR's futuristic magnetic hub-less electric motors.
Created to sit above the Captiva and Equinox in GM's Chinese line-up, the FNR-X is destined for production as early as next year.
It's not known if GM plans to sell the production version of the FNR-X elsewhere but, given Australia's love for all-things SUV, if produced in right-hand-drive it may be starter Down Under.
