A team of 23 apprentices from the Skoda Academy in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic have created a utility based on the five-door Fabia.
Created for the GTI Meeting in Worthesee in May the new Skoda Fabia Funster Pickup follows on from last year’s Citijet - a two-seat roadster that was also created by apprentices based on the Citigo city car.
Powered by a boosted 90kW version of the current car’s 1.2-litre petrol turbo, the ute concept also comes with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The concept features a powerful 1400W sound system, sporty Octavia vRS-inspired interior and lots of white and green highlights.
To create the ute the Fabia’s body needed reinforced side panels and a wider B-pillar to cope with increased forces associated with removing half of the five-door’s body.
The final ute concept was chosen after an incredible 84 design proposals by students.
Skoda has already confirmed another apprentice-led project will be launched next year.
