Skoda Kodiaq ute concept teased

Two-door Skoda Kodiaq pick-up teased ahead of reveal in June

Skoda says it has begun designing and developing a pick-up based on its popular Skoda Kodiaq SUV - but there's a catch.

Previewed overnight via a design rendering, the Czech car-maker's Ford Ranger-rival looks like it will come with an unusual two-door double-cab configuration.

Unfortunately for those in the market for a new SUV-based pick-up, the concept isn't likely to reach production.

That's because, despite growing demand globally for utes, the large Skoda's car-like MQB platform doesn't lend itself well to commercial applications. In short, it wouldn't offer anywhere near the one-tonne payload of its rivals.

Instead, the new concept will be used by Skoda to highlight the talent of the 35 young men and women apprentices who are training to work for the car-maker's academy.

Last June, another 23 students attending Skoda's Mlada Bolesav trade school created a wacky convertible based on the car-maker's Karoq.

Dubbed the Skoda Sunroq, the 2018 concept followed on from a Citigo-based electric buggy (2017), a Rapid Spaceback coupe (2016), a Fabia ute (2015) and a sporty two-seat Citigo roadster (2014).
