The upcoming Skoda Kodiaq RS will be powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel that will produce 177kW and 500Nm of torque.
Skoda confirmed beefy diesel engine, which already sees service under the bonnet of the Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 BiTDi BMT 240 in Europe, in its latest teaser for the new seven-seat performance SUV overnight.
It's thought the Skoda Kodiaq RS will match its German cousin's ability to hit 100km/h in just 6.5 seconds and top out at 229km/h.
It's the first time the Czech car-maker has publicly confirmed what will power its flagship SUV.
Back in June, a camouflaged Skoda Kodiaq RS set a new lap record for a seven-seat SUV at the Nurburgring Nordshleife circuit, with a time of 9:29.84.
Look closely in the video and you'll also notice it previews both the new 'RS' badge that will feature on all future high-performance Skodas, as well as new 20-inch wheels, 'virtual cockpit' digital instruments and squared-off tailpipes.
At the front of the fast diesel SUV it's also hard to miss the new standard 'crystalline-effect' full LED headlights of the Kodiaq RS.
According to Skoda, its newest RS model will also be the company's first model to offer Dynamic Sound Boost, which uses the car's speakers to improve the sound of the diesel.
The fast Kodiaq also comes standard with the firm's Dynamic Chassis Control adaptive dampers, offering Eco, Normal, Comfort and Sport driving modes.
Finally, the video also reveals a new Race Blue exterior colour that will be specific to the Skoda SUV.
The Kodiaq RS will be only the second high-performance Skoda model offered in global markets, although that’s likely to change in 2020 when a hybrid-powered Fabia RS arrives.
It’s still not been confirmed whether the faster Kodiaq RS is destined to be sold Down Under, following concerns that it won’t have enough cooling for a ‘hot weather’ market like Australia.
If it does make it here, Skoda might follow the lead of other Volkswagen Group brands like Audi and detune the Kodiaq RS to meet the car-maker’s internal durability standards.
