Skoda has revealed a second official sketch of its third-generation Superb, this time showing its edgy new rear-end.
The rear three-quarter image follows the release of the first frontal sketch a week ago and spy shots seen previously, revealing an altogether more angular new look for the Czech car-maker's flagship sedan.
"The new model takes the ŠKODA Superb to the higher level of the automotive mid-class segment," said Skoda in typically straight-forward fashion.
"The third-generation model is expected to get new customers interested in both the brand and model."
Apart from debuting a more striking design with a heavily creased bonnet and striking headlights with LED running lights, the new Superb will bring more luxury, more technology and more space.
Overseen by former Audi designer and now Skoda head of design Jozef Kaban, the new Superb design will bring a big dose of extra road presence to the budget Volkswagen brand's most expensive model, which will be longer, wider, lower and more premium looking than before.
It will also be up to 75kg lighter and about 17mm longer at 4840mm (still about 100mm shorter than a Holden Commodore), making it the longer vehicle to ride on Volkswagen's scalable MQB platform, which also underpins vehicles such as the VW Golf and Audi A3.
The increased size liberates more passenger and boot space -- the latter growing from 595 to 625 litres in the sedan version, although a new wagon version is yet to emerge.
Improved infotainment systems, more efficient engines and the option of adaptive suspension will be part of the upgrade, but it could also be the first Superb to shun six-cylinder power in favour of an all-turbo four-cylinder engine range.
Skoda has now confirmed the MkIII Superb will make its world debut in Prague in mid-February, a few weeks before its launch at the Geneva motor show in Switzerland in early March. It will go on sale in Europe in mid-2015, but won't arrive in Australian showrooms until 2016.
