Skoda Australia has introduced optional seven-year service plans that come with an extended warranty for the same period for all new vehicles sold until the end of this year.
Buyers who opt for the extra two years of fixed-price servicing – which rolls over from the standard five-year deals – will pay between $2100 and $2900 (depending on the model) for the privilege.
Customers can still specify the more affordable five-year service plans priced between $1500 and $2000, while all vehicles remain covered by a five-year warranty without any servicing strings attached.
The Czech car-maker says it’s sold more than 15,000 service packs to date, with 60 per cent of buyers taking up the offer in 2021.
The company hopes the temporary deal will help maintain sales momentum for the remainder of the year, having recorded 7120 sales to the end of August 2021.
This places the brand in new territory, surpassing its full-year sales record of 7001 units set in 2020.
The deal takes Skoda, for a temporary period, beyond the five-year marker that’s become the industry standard, although some rival car-makers – Korean brands Kia and SsangYong, and Chinese brands MG, Haval and GWM – offer seven-year warranties.
Mitsubishi also covers its vehicles for 10 years, providing the vehicles are serviced according to the owner’s manual at authorised dealerships. Otherwise, it’s a five-year deal.
Skoda Australia chief Michael Irmer described Skoda as the “fastest growing European brand” and said its sales growth, which comes despite delays and the unavailability of some model variants due to global semi-conductor shortages, reflected its “emergence from its earlier niche status”.
“We have proven adept at finding solutions to supply, for example introducing the Kamiq 110TSI while we await the renewed availability of the 85TSI,” he said.
“We hope to have the refreshed version of the Kodiaq SUV before year’s end with the new petrol version of the Kodiaq RS early in the new year.”
Irmer reaffirmed that the brand’s next-generation Skoda Fabia city car is set for launch in 2022, while the all-new Skoda Enyaq also remains a prospect for sale later next year.
“Electrification is firmly on the agenda. Next year we hope to announce timing for the introduction of the Enyaq, which has been resoundingly successful in Europe,” he said.
