Skoda has confirmed it will introduce five electrified vehicles in its global markets by the end of 2020.
According to CEO Bernhard Maier, the new commitment by the Czech car maker will see two electric cars and three plug-in hybrids launch in less than two years.
Already confirmed to launch in 2019 is a plug-in version of the Superb, to be followed by a pure-electric version of the Volkswagen Up-based Citigo-e available in European markets.
Next, a production version of the pure-electric Vision E will launch in 2020, based on the Volkswagen Group's all-new dedicated MEB platform.
Two more electrified models arriving in the next two years are likely to share the same powertrain with the Superb – those are likely to be plug-in hybrid versions of the Octavia and Kodiaq.
Previously, Skoda declared it would introduce 10 electrified cars before 2025, with five of those now confirmed to arrive by 2020; the rest are set to be launched between 2020 and 2025.
Skoda is yet to confirm whether it will launch a pure-electric, or electrified sub-brand to help market its ultra-low and zero-emission vehicles. According to reports the Czech car maker is yet to make a decision on its naming strategy.
