Skoda Yeti replacement to be called Karoq
May debut confirmed for Skoda’s new small SUVSkoda has confirmed its ‘Karoq’ SUV will be unveiled in full later this month before replacing the Yeti in the Czech brand’s global line-up.
The Karoq will join the existing Kodiaq in Skoda’s broadening SUV portfolio, which is also expected to include a ‘coupe-like’ SUV in the future. Its name is apparently drawn from the same language that coined the Kodiaq moniker – the native Alutiiq people of Alaska – and roughly translates to ‘car arrow’.
Sharing the same platform as the Volkswagen Tiguan, the Karoq is expected to feature a similar offering of diesel and petrol engines, available across manual and automatic trims and front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.
Recent spy photos reveal a typical Skoda styling language with a healthy off-road bent, punctuated by a elevated ride height and plastic mouldings around the wheel arches.
The Karoq will be revealed in full on May 18. It is due to arrive in Australian showrooms by mid 2018.
