Toyota Australia has announced a ‘customer service exercise’ to rectify potential faults with the exhaust after treatment fuel addition injector on more than 40,000 LandCruiser 300 Series produced between July 17, 2021, and February 17, 2025.
The fault stems from the LandCruiser’s fuel addition injector – part of the vehicle’s emissions system – which can become clogged and trigger a warning on the dash.
The fuel addition injector helps maintain the temperature of the catalyst in the exhaust, which is crucial in the removal of particulate matter.
In line with the build dates mentioned above, Toyota says the affected Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) ranges are 4000150 to 4102642 and 4000143 to 4102640.
As for the warning: “Engine Maintenance Required: Visit Your Dealer” will appear on the instrument cluster.
Toyota Australia plans to contact all affected customers, though has recommended any LC300 owners that are potentially involved to check their contact details to ensure they are accurate.
Crucially however, Toyota has advised vehicles can still be driven in the interim.
Dealers will clean the F33A injector, install a retainer if required and reprogram the ECU, with the work estimated to take around three hours, though this may be longer depending on the dealer’s work schedule. The work will be completed free of charge.
As for the terminology used in this report, a Toyota spokesperson said that a ‘customer service exercise’ is a proactive measure by the company to fix a fault that may impact customer satisfaction, rather than a recall that is a known defect requiring rectification; typically safety, security or compliance related.
