In what has to be one of the longest lead times to a model launch we've experienced, Toyota and Subaru's collaborative effort, dubbed FT-86, has again been spotted by our spy photographers, Carparazzi.
Said to be 'nearing production', a point reinforced by the production-ready interior (pictured), the car that could well become the next Celica (or even Celica MR2) is seen here heavily camouflaged. Curiously, it features Subaru Impreza WRX STI alloy wheels, perhaps hinting the car will also feature Subaru's 2.0-litre boxer engine, as promised at the car's 2009 Tokyo Motor Show debut.
Inside sources say the normally aspirated model will develop approximately 150kW and drive the rear wheels via either manual or automatic six-speed transmissions.
A turbocharged high-output variant is also slated for production, and rumoured to develop as much as 200kW. This hi-po version may also offer all-wheel drive.
Set to be unveiled later this year, the FT-86 is likely to be called Celica by Toyota and will be joined by the Scion FR-S and an as yet unnamed Subaru variant.
