To be frank, at this stage, not much detail has leaked about the new-generation Peugeot 508 which is actually due for launch relatively soon.
These Automedia spy photos indicate Peugeot’s all-new large car is well on the way to finalisation and some are tipping an unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September ahead of sales launch early in 2018.
Much of the industry chatter about the new 508 points to a shift further upmarket in order to challenge the more financially-palatable (make that profitable) cars from established premium players like BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
So styling will play an important role.
Hence the expectation of a four-door coupe-style look, displaying a new, lower-slung profile and a semi-fastback rear end which won’t sacrifice rear-seat head space.
The disguised prototype snapped here by Automedia photographers doesn’t tell much, except the styling signatures should provide some connection – apart from the fact it appears noticeably lower-slung and has a more accentuated coupe-style roofline – with the current 508.
The all-new 508 will ride on the PSA Group’s hybrid-capable EMP2 platform already in use across the family – including the likes of Peugeot’s 5008 SUV – and due to be seen in various Citroen models as well as the upcoming Peugeot 3008-based Opel/Vauxhall Grandland X.
This crossover vehicle will be the result of PSA’s recent acquisition of previously GM-owned Opel.
As for the Peugeot 508, its market will likely be that already occupied by the likes of Volkswagen’s Passat – also based on a global platform – and lower-order BMWs and Benzes.
