SPY PICS: 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQA sedan steps out

Early pics of all-new small electric sedan reveal a fastback-style body shape ahead of its mid-decade release

The newest and smallest member of the flourishing Mercedes-Benz EQ electric vehicle portfolio, the Mercedes-Benz EQA sedan, has just been spotted cruising between workshops within the brand’s Stuttgart development centre.

Wrapped in obligatory detail-clouding black and white camouflage, the battery-electric compact sedan looks to be taking on more of a CLA-style fastback silhouette as opposed to the more traditional A-class sedan shape; something that will undoubtedly improve the car’s drag coefficient and extend its effective driving range.

It’s also in line with what we’ve seen from the bigger Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan and flagship EQS limousine, however, it’s clear from these telephoto spy images that the EQA will retain an old-school sedan boot compared to a more practical liftback as seen on the EQS.

Also unlike the large and full-size offerings, the EQA sedan won’t be underpinned by a bespoke EV architecture, but rather the German car-maker’s next-generation MMA platform, which is designed to primarily accommodate battery-electric hardware as well as internal combustion solutions.

Sources out of Germany tell us the new compact four-door EV will launch globally in 2025 as a direct replacement for the current A-Class and B-Class range, however, the fate of the CLA, GLA and GLB remains unclear beyond this point.

That makes the emergence of these spy images both informative and significant in terms of the timing and overall design theme of the EQA, but many of the details including the headlight, tail-light and alloy wheel designs will undoubtedly evolve over the next few years as the car is developed.

The EQA sedan’s mechanical make-up is anyone’s guess for the time being, though it would make sense for it to loosely align with that of the aforementioned SUVs in terms of outputs, battery size and drive configuration.

A global launch in 2025 suggests we won’t see the electric A-Class successor Down Under until 2026 at the earliest, leaving us plenty of time to uncover more details.
