The RAM 1500 TRX mega-pickup is dead, but it will be replaced by the 2025 RAM 1500 RHO you’re looking at here.
Yes, less than six months after RAM Trucks announced the death of the formidable RAM TRX, our spy photographers have spotted its six-cylinder replacement sculking about the suburbs wrapped in less than subtle camouflage.
Wearing all the hallmarks of range-topping performance pick-ups, the spied RHO prototypes are fitted with huge all-terrain tyres, extended wheel-arches, high-performance suspension, huge bonnet scoops and vents, a unique front fascia and massive dual-exhaust outlets protruding from under the tailgate.
Not too much is known about the RHO at this stage beyond the inclusion of a 403kW/706Nm version of Stellantis’ new Hurricane 3.0-litre twin-turbo-petrol straight-six, and that it will more than likely come with all the same go-faster goodies as the TRX.
Number buffs will recognise these figures are a fair way short of the TRX’s monstrous supercharged 6.2-litre HEMI V8’s (522kW/882Nm) and, perhaps more importantly, the Ford F-150 Raptor R’s.
It seems then the new RAM 1500 RHO will be positioned more as a rival for the six-cylinder Raptor instead of the savage V8 R, however, there’s nothing to say RAM won’t turn the wick up even higher or isn’t secretly working on an even hotter version.
The prototypes clearly aren’t lacking menace and so it will be interesting to see the final product and the headline numbers.
More importantly, we’re yet to hear if or when the new high-performance RAM 1500 will be offered in our market, given a timeline for facelifted versions of regular 1500 variants – which will also adopt the Hurricane six – is yet to be confirmed for Australia.
Our sources tell us the 2025 RAM 1500 RHO’s global reveal will take place shortly, most likely at the 2024 Chicago motor show (February 10-19).
