The 2024 Hyundai i30 N hot hatch is nearing its global debut, with our spy photographers catching the sleek Fastback version testing in Germany wearing minimal camouflage.
Due in Australian showrooms next year, these new images provide the best look yet at what will be the inaugural Hyundai i30 N’s second major update.
But as we’ve already seen, it doesn’t look as if all that much will change on the design front.
It’s worth noting the Fastback and hatch share the same front fascia and rolling stock, so despite Hyundai Australia currently having no plans to relaunch the four-door liftback here, this sighting still shows us what to expect from the five-door.
The exterior tweaks are minimal and largely revolve around the grille and intake mesh texture, which looks to be chunkier and more honeycomb-like than the current model’s.
There’s also some subtle alterations to the shape of the intakes and adjoining trim.
While the design changes are minor, the true intent of this second facelift is to lift the i30 N’s technology game with more modern interfaces and connectivity functions.
Word from the photographer is the engineering development car seen here was fitted with a digital instrument cluster – almost certainly the 10.25-inch unit used abundantly throughout the Hyundai Motor Group – which would do wonders for the i30 N’s tech game given it’s the only N model presently going without.
Sources tell us the massaged styling and new tech features will be complemented by a revised chassis set-up and a couple of efficiency-minded changes to the raucous 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that presently pumps out 206kW/392Nm.
It’s still to be seen whether this means the hatch will finally score the same 213kW overboost functionality as the now-retired Kona N and i30 N sedan, but it would pair nicely with the more tied-down chassis.
