It’s been less than a year since the new-generation BMW M2 coupe was revealed and the upcoming high-performance CS version has already been spotted testing on public roads – wrapped in the same mind-bending camo wrap as the standard model was 12 months ago.
The disguise ultimately does little to mask the more aggressive front fascia, body kit, wheels, lower ride height and enlarged boot lip spoiler of the 2024 BMW M2 CS, all of which hints at the extra performance lurking under the bonnet.
How much extra go-fast juice there’ll be on offer remains to be seen, but the old CS offered a 29kW advantage over its Competition counterpart, so it’d be reasonable to expect a similar increase here too.
Such a boost would theoretically lift outputs to around 368kW/550Nm, which is within spitting distance of the next-size-up M3 Competition, the CS version of which just so happens to deliver a 30kW power advantage…
A torque increase would also be fitting for the M2 CS given the current (standard) model’s 550Nm can be traced back to the old M2 Competition and would yield more tractable performance than a circa-30kW boost would on its own.
The extra firepower will inevitably be matched with a lower kerb weight, more aggressive chassis tune, angrier aesthetics (as shown here), carbon body panels, high-performance brakes and a wealth of motorsport-inspired interior carbon-fibre and Alcantara appointments.
Many of these goodies can be fitted to the standard M2 via the genuine M Performance Parts catalogue but the extra grunt and angrier ECU mapping can’t, which presents would-be customers with a dilemma – spec-up a standard M2 or wait for the CS?
It’ll largely come down to how patient you are, because BMW hasn’t given even the slightest of hints as to when we’ll see the new M2 CS globally, let alone locally.
However, we anticipate the fiery new compact rear-drive two-door will be revealed sometime next year, since top-shelf CS variants typically follow the standard M and Competition grades by anything between two and four years.
If the new BMW M2 CS is revealed by mid-2024, it’s a good chance to arrive here before next Christmas.
