BMW has the mid-life update of its 5 Series range pencilled in for a global release during the Northern Hemisphere spring, according to the spy photographers at Carparrazi.
That strongly suggests the subtly facelifted models will make their first public appearance at the Geneva motor show during the first quarter of next year. The photos taken by Carparazzi indicate the upgraded 5 Series won't be especially conspicuous in a new-car showroom – not alongside any run-out stock. Production for Australia is likely to crank up from around mid-year. On that basis, we anticipate seeing the facelifted 5 Series here about 12 months from now.
Restyled elements of the new car seem to aim for a closer visual kinship with the F30-generation 3 Series released here earlier this year. The blokes at Carparazzi reckon the nose of the 5 Series will feature a slightly larger grille and the rear apron will be new also. A larger grille may encroach on the area available for the headlight clusters and we would speculate that the headlight design won't be as soft as the current car's. The front quarter panels may be in for some minor sheet metal revisions too, based on the additional masking around the leading edge of the front wheel arch and the vents near the front doors. Plainly the tail lights will be revised also, although the work done there looks like it will be literally peripheral in nature. – with Carparazzi
