SPY PICS: New Chinese brand caught in Oz

Chery sub-brand Fulwin spied transporting a pair of sedans on NSW south coast

The News

A pair of camouflaged Fulwin vehicles have been spotted on the back of a transporter near Wollongong this week. However, parent company Chery allegedly didn't know the vehicles were coming to Oz – or that they’d arrived – telling carsales the pair are likely here to undergo hot weather testing.

The Key Details

  • Pair of Fulwin sedans spotted on the back of a truck near Wollongong
  • Likely here for hot weather testing over summer
  • Thought to be the A9, due to launch in China in 2026
  • Fulwin brand hasn’t been confirmed for Australia

The Finer Details

The pair of camouflaged vehicles had likely just touched down at the Port Kembla shipping dock near Wollongong before being photographed on the NSW south coast, seemingly en route to Sydney when they were captured on the back of a truck travelling up Mount Ousley.

But local Chery executives claim they had no idea the Fulwin-branded sedans – thought to be the A9 mid-size sedan due in China next year– were coming to Australia. Instead, telling carsales they suspect it’s here for hot weather testing over the Aussie summer months.

According to CarNewsChina, the Chery Fulwin A9 is due on sale in China next year where it’s set to offered as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or battery-electric vehicle.

While we can’t confirm exactly what powers either of the spied vehicles, the fact a muffler can clearly be seen beneath the rear vehicle’s undercarriage makes it all but certain to use a 1.5-litre petrol-electric powertrain under the bonnet, said to offer a combined driving range of more than 1400km.

Outside, both test mules feature flush-mounted exterior door handles, frameless side mirrors and FULWIN branding on the tailgate, set beneath what appears to be a full-width integrated LED light bar.

Other equipment thought to feature in the Chinese-bound A9 includes an in-car fridge, fully reclining front seats, karaoke, and a fragrance system, among others.

The Road Ahead

Fulwin hasn’t been confirmed for Oz but its arrival would see it join current sub-brands Omoda and Jaecoo, and the soon-to-arrive Lepas brand.

Chery’s Jetour brand was also touted for a 2025 arrival Down Under but its arrival status is now “unconfirmed”.

If you’re on the road this summer, keep an eye for the camouflaged sedans getting around, although we suspect Chery engineers will be keeping the sedans under close guard.
