Jeep looks set to appeal to mainstream SUV buyers with its all-new Compass mid-sizer, which appears to be more conservative in its design if these new spy photos are any indication.
Roughly the same size as some of Australia's top-selling SUVs, such as the Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4 and Subaru Forester, the new model looks to bring a smoother, more contemporary aesthetic, ditching the blocky visuals of its predecessor.
Powertrain options are expected to be borrowed from existing Jeeps, such as the 2.4-litre Tigershark petrol engine from the smaller Jeep Renegade. The new Compass also shares the same ('small wide') platform as the Renegade.

As we've previously reported, Jeep's new Compass was originally scheduled to appear for the first time at the 2016 New York motor show in late March, but its world debut was postponed for unknown reasons.
Jeep boss Mike Manly confirmed to motoring.com.au at the New York show that the launch would instead take place in Brazil later this year and that there were "no problems" with the car, despite rumours of a rethink around its design.

The all-new Jeep Compass cannot come soon enough for Jeep in Australia, where sales were down 20 per cent last year and have slumped almost 50 per cent so far in 2016.
Sales of the outgoing Compass have fallen off a cliff, down almost 60 per cent in the first four months of 2016.
