SPY PICS: New Porsche 911 Turbo hits the road

Porsche’s forever-young but formidable 911T takes on small tweaks as part of mid-life facelift

Gentle evolution is the name of the game with the venerable Porsche 911.

So it should come as little surprise that the barnstorming sports car has stayed true to the blueprint with this black little number: a 2023 Porsche 911 Turbo caught testing by our spy photographers in Europe.

Sporting the kind of evolutionary tweaks that almost require a microscope to spot, this engineering development vehicle was captured testing on snow-covered German roads this month.

The front fascia is seen with larger air intakes than before, with active aero vents and a big space under the front number plate for possible modifications for on-board camera- and radar-based safety systems.

Development cars often hit the road with features that aren’t production spec, which helps explain the round driving lamps on the outer reaches of the 911 Turbo’s front bumper, as well as the aforementioned exposed cameras.

The rear and side of the test mule appear largely unchanged (if you’re already onto a good thing, right?).

A look through the passenger window also reveals incremental updates to the instrument cluster are in store, with a big piece of fabric covering the entire area.

What remains unknown are Porsche’s plans around power upgrades for the 992-generation Porsche 911.

First released locally in 2019, the eighth-generation 911 has reset sports car benchmarks across the range.

The outgoing 992 Porsche 911 Turbo doles out a formidable 427kW from an updated 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6, mated to a savvier all-wheel drive set-up.

The mid-life 992-generation facelift is set to debut in 2023, leaving plenty of time for more spy shots and, eventually, concrete details from Stuttgart.
