Spy photograph specialist Automedia has captured Volkswagen’s next generation Passat undergoing hot weather testing in the US.
The images reveal little other than the fact that Volkswagen is presently at work on the mechanical part of the test cycle, with a mostly current-generation wagon body over a new platform. As everyone knows, this is the group’s widely used MQB architecture already in use on the seventh generation Golf and the Audi A3.
What it brings in this case is an obviously wider track, as indicated by the pumped-up rear wheel arches and the bulging front-end disguise that may or may not conceal the upcoming Passat’s new shapes.
It could be assumed from this that the next model will be a bit wider and a bit bigger overall.
Also a probability is the Passat’s adoption of Volkswagen’s new TDI clean diesel designated EA288 and destined to also appear in late-2014 Golf, Jetta and Beetle models. It is expected to use a suite of efficiency technologies that will improve performance across a wide range of criteria.
The next generation Passat is purportedly due to make its first appearance at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show.
