SPY PICS: Next Skoda Kodiaq to be bigger and bolder

Skoda’s Kodiaq family SUV will be roomier and strike an imposing stance in its second generation

The incoming second-generation 2024 Skoda Kodiaq will be considerably bigger than the current model, based on these photographs of an engineering prototype of the seven-seat family SUV caught testing in Europe.

The camouflaged new Kodiaq was snapped travelling through northern Sweden in tandem with the current version and a facelifted Volkswagen Passat – all three of which ride on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB architecture.

As you can see, the next Skoda Kodiaq will cast a bigger shadow than the current model, with a longer wheelbase and extra length behind the rear axle.

It’s also apparent that the Czech brand’s new-generation three-row large SUV will borrow styling cues from the battery-electric Skoda Enyaq.

The new Kodiaq looks to have a much squarer front fascia than today’s curvier model, which together with a higher bonnet line makes the front-end more imposing.

Changes have also been made to the headlights, grille and air intakes to complement the new nose.

Heavy camouflage obscures the rear-end styling, but the tail-lights echo those of the Skoda Octavia wagon and have been moved higher up the tailgate.

The new Kodiaq is anticipated to launch globally with a range of petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with a return of the Kodiaq RS as the performance leader.

The Kodiaq was launched in Europe in 2016 and received a significant facelift in 2021, so it’ll be ready for renewal next year.
